Reading Vocabulary
- Cause/Effect–Text Structure that explains reasons for something happening (Sewe punches Ayel, and Ayel cries) and what happens next.
- Chronology–Text Structure that shows events in the order in which they happen (timeline).
- Comparison–Text structure that takes two things or more and shows how they are similar and how they are different.
- Evidence–Facts, figures, text, opinions, quotes, pictures, captions or any sort of data that gives support to claims (answers) made by somebody.
- Non-Fiction Text (Expository)–True text that gives you information about a topic through main ideas and their supporting details.
- problem/solution–Text structure that when an obstacle is doing something, and how that obstacle is solved.
- Synthesize (Connect)–Bring together information from text and from personal, world and literary (books, magazines) to create a new understanding (come to the big idea).
- Text Features: In informational text that help the reader work through the text and provide more information to help comprehend: titles, heading, subheadings, captions, maps, diagrams, charts, graphs, legends, bold, italicized text, glossaries, tables of content, indexes, cutaways, bald kids
- Text Structure: How the author organizes text (chronology, comparison, cause/effect, problem/solution)
